Стали известны результаты отбора этюдов в Альбом Фиде 2013-15 гг. Больше всех баллов набрал Р.Беккер – 25.83, второй О.Перваков – 21.11, третий М.Мински – 13.88. Четвертое и пятое место поделили Н.Нильсен и Ю.Базлов – 11.67 балла.
Победа американца – большой сюрприз для нашей маленькой компании композиторов. Ведь в чемпионате мира он был только одиннадцатым. Его скучные однообразные этюды с беготней перепуганных ферзей и легкой фигуры уже надоели до тошноты. Но не всем. Звезды распорядились, чтобы назначенного директора этюдного раздела сменили на З.Хорнекера, который разбирается в этюдах еще хуже, чем в мировой политике. По регламенту директор оценивает этюды трех судей. Очевидно, что именно его оценки помогли судье Беккеру выступить настолько успешно.
The judging process will be evaluated by the studies subcommittee during the WCCC in Dresden 2017. While I am not allowed to give details on the individual judges’ scores, at looking through the points sheet again I believe that my scores were not significantly different on the evaluated studies compared to those of other judges.
I invite you to either come to Dresden for the WCCC, or to stay in contact with Harry Fougiaxis and Yochanan Afek to receive informations and to voice your concerns.

Don’t tell me the scores, just the number of studies by Becker which received from you 2.5 points and more. Then we’ll know for sure how many of his studies you let into the Album. The calculation is easy because this time 7.5 points (from 3 judges) was enough for a study to be selected.
Of course, my assumption about your «contribution» to the Becker’s success is based only on logical reasoning and I still have doubts that other judges were less favourable to the American. The points will show if I was wrong.
That would be 16 in total, of which 9 were included for the album. There are 5 studies where I gave lower than 2.5 points and 3 WCCI studies of Becker in addition that were included for the album. A total of 39 studies (including the 3 WCCI studies) was submitted by or for Becker. Cooperative studies are included in this statistics.
That is,
in the Album there are 14 + 3 = 17 studies by Becker.
if there had been 3 Siegfrieds as judges, then we’d had 16 + 3 = 19 studies by Becker.
but with 1 Siegfried we have only 9 + 3 = 12 studies by Becker.
So, other judges helped Becker too. They simply like his studies … The judges in the WCCI were more competent.
Minski was more competent as WCCI judge because now he is too old 🙂
Sergiy, you will understand that I am not able to deny nor confirm any of your conclusions about other judges or the WCCI. What I can tell is that the studies subcommittee will speak about the selection process of the album in Dresden, and it will also talk about the scores of the judges in doing so.
Some complaints by composers were submitted to the committee that the included studies were in general too few, as compared to the previous album, so this will be a point to talk about, and I have also submitted some questions to be evaluated both at the subcommittee and the WCCC main meeting. So the results of this will determine the further actions.
I have not really looked at any studies other than those I had to judge, so I can’t speak about their quality. How fair is the selection process at all, seeing that judges are also composers and thus necessarily are judged by a different team of three judges than other composers? Was I too generous, or were they not generous enough? Or were the studies of Becker better in general? After the WCCC we will know more.
I think we don’t need FIDE Albums any more. I can compile better collections of studies every year and they will be for free and everyone can play them through.
If people want titles, a different system can be applied. The existing one is not so good anyway.

У меня есть PGN файл со всеми этюдами, попавшими в Альбом, но Гарри Фу. не разрешил их публиковать до выхода Альбома. Он сослался на некий документ, запрещающий это делать, хотя там написано про PDF, а не про PGN.
Если Власак или другой специалист по юридическим вопросам, касающимся авторских прав, это читает, пусть объяснит мне, прав ли президент.
