About the 1st prize:
The black queen goes without capture to a3. The move 2.Kb1 is subtle.
But you only count the pawns.
Still, I find the song very funny.
I am Groot!
That is, I always count pawns in order to see if the ideas suit each other. You made them work at the price of 5 pawns. It’s like marry an old woman with 5 children.
You're right. The scheme of David has 5 pawns less. Great Master, show me how to compose a good study without this pawns. By the way, I married a woman with two children.
Oh, it’s so surprising. I didn’t know that. But I hope you learned she had children before you got married ? My deepest respect to the four of you.
1.f6 b4+ 2.Kb3 Rf1! 3.g7+ Kh7 4.Bxf1!
[4.Be6? a1S+! 5.Ka2 b3+ 6.Ka3 Sc2+ 7.Kxb3 Sxd4+ 8.Kc3 Sxe6–+]
4…a1Q 5.Bd3+ Kg8 6.Bb1! Kf7 7.Bg6+
[7.Bh7? Qd1+ 8.Ka2 Qxa4+ 9.Kb1 Qe8+-]
http://yacpdb.org/#277316
I think this is a very nice version of an old study.
Congratulations Sergiy!
In the HHdbV I found not a study by Korolkov 1955 but a cooked study by G. Popov 1958 with this idea.
My wife’s children are already grown up.
Popov took this positional draw from a try in the Korolkov’s study. So, this study is after Korolkov. Published in Mat Plus 2008 or 2007, I think.
You see I didn’t use extra pawns — all of them are needed in the finale. You had to turn David’s poor scheme into Korolkov’s scheme first in order to make a study without garbage.
You write almost like Bazlov, who believes that every idea has to be realized in the economic form of a classical study. Your version is perfect. Especially I like 2...Rf1! and the try 4.Be6? a1N+! Each move is good and the end position is economical. You have an excellent technique. But you didn't have used David's scheme. This is another position. I've needed a long time until I could reach that the black queen goes to a3 without capture.
That was my aim and I needed pawns for it. Important is the beauty of the idea without counting the pawns. Korolkov knew that.
In general, I give you right: We must be carefull with the addition of pawns. But I am against a dogmatism. The David's scheme is no stalemate. I think the number of pawns is not so important in a ending with positional draw. I'm very happy with this introduction 2.Kb1!! ... 4.Na5! and the fact that there is a thematic try for the reciprocal zugzwang.
I am sure that:
Which of these statements you don’t agree with? Do they sound to you like dogmas?
Do you agree with my following assumptions?
Rules are good, but there must sometimes be exceptions, otherwise it is a dogma.
study by Hlinka & Kekely: weak introduction; 6 man zugzwang position from the database; no thematic try. I would not give a prize for this study.
study by Arestov & Skripnik: second main line is not analogous. Only the first main line deserves recognition.
study by Gurgenidze & Minski: After your sharp criticism I’m not sure whether it deserves a prize.
Nevertheless, I find Eric Huber did a good job because he justified his decisions very well.
I don’t know if your answers mean ‘yes’ or ‘no’. You are too careful and uncertain.
