In the study by Gurgenidze & Minski I understood your criticism. There is one computer variant. That's why you reject this study. But what's wrong with the study by Arestov & Skripnik? All pieces move and there are mutual sacrifices and rook promotion. The only weakness: very forced.
A heap of trifle ideas, not connected between themselves. Knight is added only to be sacrificed and make the solution one move longer, bishop is added only to be sacrificed and so on … Ideas must interact to make a performance. They don’t in this study.
I add pieces to almost every study to sacrifice them. :)
No connection. Ok. That is an argument. Still, I've seen worse studies.
Yes, you add pieces to almost every study to sacrifice them and you think this makes your study better.
If the concept of «connection» is too diffcult for you, I’ll explain simpler: synthesis of different ideas — is just a stupid phrase that has no value at all.
Only synthesis of similar ideas (study by Tsurtsumia) and logically connected ideas (Costeff’s example) can improve the main idea of a study.
Thanks master!
What do you think about this study?
open PGN
Main idea: stalemate avoidance by means of a minor promotion to R.
Additional idea: sacrifice of N — we need to count the line ahead till the move Kxa2.
As Black started his counterplay for stalemate (b2+) before Kxa2, the ideas are connected.
Simple ideas, simple lines (which is good because, complex lines would ruin its attraction).
What do judges give for a nice little study if its main idea is not original? They give it a commendation, not a prize, like Garcia did.
You answered at the same time.
I try to answer for myself: I don’t see any connection between the logical elimination of the white knight and the rook promotion. Therefore this is a synthesis of different ideas = bad study.
On the other hand, Costeff’s study has a connection because there is the logical try 1.Ng7? with stalemate. Correct?
Type of synthesis is only one criterion. The complexity of the idea is another important criterion. The clarity of lines is also very important. And only after that I take into consideration less important things such as exchanges of pieces, captures, flow …
What I see in the Arestov & Skripnik is: bad synthesis, trifle ideas, difficult lines. These are main criteria and all of them score Zero points. Disgusting study!!!
“exchanges of pieces, captures, flow” are just as important to me.
I agree with your comments about "synthesis".
