(«What is the difference?» 1996)

The study that you mention, was initially number 6 and then I changed it to number 8. You are right, I put on first places already judged and awarded studies. And this one not judged yet. This was my mistake. I didn’t think that the order is too important.
But at least I sent this study as candidate to the FIDE Album 2019-2021… I hope it will be included there .. 🙂

I support this project because it is good publicity for studies.
I will buy and give away the miniatures album.

It would be nice if there was more participation next time.

Michael, your miniature is great! A clear prize study.

Serhiy, Steffen and I are happy about your new introduction to our miniature. Good idea.

But what kind of study did you send to Judit Polgar? The grandmasters are desperate. ☺

I agree with Martin: Michael, your study from the Schwalbe deserves a prize. Clear solution and resourceful play by both sides. You should have sent it to Phénix. 😉

Thanks, Jan and Martin.
Jan, I think my study to Phenix was also very good and deserved prize.. 🙂
And about Schwalbe – I still didn’t receive the results of the tournament – I think it not judged yet. So may be, in the end I’ll receive prize for it… 🙂

Michael , “Die Schwalbe” has tournament 2021-2022.
Award so later,
but I bet Yochanan Afek likes your miniature too.

I also think the initiative is laudable, but for a so-called “World Championship”, I think one needs three judges. Of course, Serhiy is a real expert, but it will often depend on subjective taste. A World Championship should average a bit between the different tastes, as one does for the WCCI.

I also watched the video. Do you have any concrete evidence supporting that Giri and Vidit are insensitive to aesthetic considerations and evaluate studies only by means of whether they are solvable with a nice pointe at the end? I know Giri personally and I think he deserves more respect: he is a very intelligent person with a wide intellectual horizon. This is also becoming clear in the “debriefing” where he and Sagar Shah talk about studies in general.

A lot of “Nebenspiel” is a problem for studies. I did not look at your study in detail, so I do not know whether it has this problem or not. But some of us composers simply don’t care about difficult sidelines and I think this is a problem, too.

The chessbase India videos are great promotions for studies! More than 40000 clicks and more than 2000 likes.
I am happy that so many composers took part.
The viewer sees very different styles (miniature, tactical, foresight, etc.) and that’s a good thing!

It is a shame we did not consider putting the king on b5. I believe I looked at something like Rb6+, where White could not capture on c3, but Kc2 was a cook. It has been a couple of years, so I don’t recall exactly.

For a “World Championship” a link to the (cross-genre) results would also be nice 🙂 I will consider taking part in the next cycle but for now I have nothing with less than 15 pieces.

At the moment it is unfortunately difficult to transfer money to Russia.
